Cape Cod Rocks
"Paul and Patricia Dauphinee, of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, have photographed, labeled and alphabetized their personal rock collection. And these are not your usual museum photos. Most are taken on the beach, with the Atlantic ocean as a backdrop. Doing a school report? The Dauphinee’s allow students to use their mineral photographs. What’s missing is a bit more annotation about each specimen."

Blow the Ballast!
Reviewed June 2, 2000by Elizabeth,a reader fromArlington, VAwho is affiliated with the site. The Office of Naval Research’s second module of the Science & Technology Focus series, an educational resource for students and teachers, tackles the exciting world of submarines. Blow the Ballast! tells the tragic but inspiring story of the Squalus, a pre-WWII submarine that sank in 1939. Thirty-three men trapped in its hull survived and were rescued after 39 grueling hours 243 feet below the surface, a feat never before accomplished! The site also dives into the history of submarines, people in the sea and submarine safety; teaches the principles behind the way submarines operate with cool, interactive graphics; and reveals 1960s Navy experiments that had aquanauts living in underwater habitats at great depths for weeks at a time! ONR’s CyberScientist is on the scene ready to answer questions and demonstrate a few experiments.

Arbor Day Net
"Arbor Day Net tells the history of Arbor Day, from 1872 Nebraska to President Nixon’s 1970 creation of National Arbor Day. Nebraska’s first Arbor Day, proposed by state agriculture board member J. Sterling Morton, was an amazing success -- more than one million trees were planted. So when Nebraska made Arbor Day an official state holiday in 1885, they chose to honor Morton by celebrating it on his birthday , April 22nd. Arbor Day (or some variation) is celebrated in many countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, Korea and Israel."

Arbor Day Crafts
"From things you probably already have around the house (such as construction paper and egg cartons) Enchanted Learning creates seven tree-related craft projects. The colorfully illustrated step-by-step instructions are great for preschoolers and lower elementary grades. Looking past Arbor Day, these crafts will also be fun around Thanksgiving (see the string of leaves) and Christmas (especially the paper evergreen tree, and the pop-up tree greeting card.)"
