NOVA Online: Kingdom of the Seahorse
"Amanda Vincent, a marine biologist dedicated to the conservation of the seahorse, is the focusof this PBS site. "No one knows exactly how many seahorses there are in the world. Becauseof this, and because of the high demand for the seahorse, conservationists are working hard toensure this magical fish has a future." All four site sections are worth visiting: the Vincentinterview, Hot Science (for seahorse basics), Roundup (the photo gallery), and Superdads (findout which animal dads -- besides the seahorse are involved in parenting offspring.)"

NOAA Townsend Cromwell Student Connections
Reviewed August 24, 1999 by a parent from Honolulu, Hawaii who is affiliated with the site. Excellent site for students of all ages interested in how scientists are working to protect and save Hawaii’s environment and endangered species. The site interactively tracks research cruises on monk seals, albatross, lobsters, oceanography, and fisheries. Students can send questions directly to the ship and recieve answers from an officer aboard the ship. The site updates twice a week with writeups and photos of operations. This is a great site for anyone interested in "hands on" field research on endangered animals and Hawaii’s unique environment.

New York Aquarium: Alien Stingers
"Stingers - known to scientists as Cnidarians (pronounced ’Ni-dare-ee-ans’) - are an ancient and primitive form of life. Stingers include jellies, corals, and anemones. They are the simplest multi-celled animals that have muscles and nerves for movement. This amazing exhibit is beautiful, educational and entertaining. Each chapter includes interactive illustrations or movies; and three interactive quiz games complete the experience."

Neopets
Reviewed March 27, 2001 by Jennifer, a parent from Ontario, Canada who is not affiliated with the site. Children of all ages (even parents) can choose a Neopet (similar to Pokemon creatures) to play games with, feed, etc. In order to buy your Neopet toys, food, weapons (to challenge another Neopet if you wish), etc. you must collect Neopoints. To do so, there are a ton of neat games (eg. Bingo, Hide and Seek, Treasure Hunt, etc.), all rated by skill level. Usability: great -- games download quickly. Site is easy to navigate, which is like a small community. Great fun!

Nature: The Panda Baby
"Panda Baby tells the story of the August 21, 1999 birth of Hua Mei at the San Diego Zoo.. With only 1,000 giant pandas still living in the wild, the success of these breeding programs is critical to the survival of the endangered panda. Best clicks are the video clip of Hua Mei’s debut (on the Bamboo Bears page) and the Panda Pearls self-scoring quiz."

National Zoo
"The National Zoo in Washington, D.C. hosts the best online audio tour I have seen. It is the same audio wand tour you could rent if you were visiting the zoo, but on the Web it’s free! Other highlights include the Animal Photo Library (guaranteed to make you smile), and the National Zoo Cinema. Attention all teachers: you and your students are invited to a free weekly video conference, hosted in the Elephant House."
