Journey to Hogwarts
Reviewed January 16, 2002 by Kyle, 10 years old from United States, who is affiliated with the site. This site was created by kids, for kids! Join the imaginary world of Hogwarts to experience life as a student of magic. Enjoy classes and quizzes, Hogwart’s postcards, games like "Muggleship" and "Dumbledore Says", an interactive Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, and lots more fun! Join the creative writing class and help to write the ongoing Hogwart’s Story. Individual dorm rooms help you learn to make your own webpages. Join the Pen-Pal Club and make friends from all over the world who share your interest in Harry Potter. A very interactive Flash website!

IPL: A World of Readers
"The Internet Public Library posts book reviews written by kids, but they must be submitted by a parent, teacher or librarian. From the home page, you can browse the kid reviews by subject (such as Adventure, Animals, or Science Fiction). Your review should be a single paragraph, not longer than six sentences. To submit it, follow the link at the bottom of the page. In addition to individually-written reviews, teachers and librarians can send collaborative class reviews."

Infoplease: Dr. Seuss
"His books were originally considered too outlandish to appeal to children. His first, ’And to Think That I Saw it on Mulberry Street’ (1937), was reputedly rejected by twenty-eight publishers before it finally found a home at Random House. Infoplease brings us an excellent one page bio, and related articles from their encyclopedia. Best link is Grinchy Trivia, which compares the 2000 live action movie and the 1966 TV movie with the original "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" book."

Huckleberry Finn: Banned Books and American Culture
"Huckleberry Finn was first banned when it was published in 1885. Officials at the Concord Public Library thought it "rough, coarse and inelegant." In February of this year, the Pennsylvania NAACP announced a campaign to remove Huckleberry Finn from the state’s school reading lists. The irony is that this book, originally criticized for showing slaves in a favorable manner, is now lambasted for its "racist tone." Decide for yourself. The entire book is available online."
