Kidsclick
Reviewed November 1, 2000 by Carol Simon Levin, a parent from New Jersey who is not affiliated with the site. For my two cents, Kidsclick! is the first place I go when looking for info for a child’s homework assignment or to find out information about almost anything (even for grownups). Children’s librarians have categorized thousands of sites by subject, so that you can easily discover great sites for math games, butterflies, presidents, physics, pharaohs, election 2000, whatever... (all legitimate and useful!) It also brings together online encyclopedias, almanacs, maps, and dictionaries in its reference section. In addition, it offers a great children’s tutorial on Internet searching. A similar site designed for grownups is the Librarian’s Index to the Internet (http://www.lii.org).

KidsClick! Web Search
"KidsClick! is a ""web search for kids by librarians"" created by the Ramapo Catskill Library System. In addition to the search box, 6300 recommended sites can be browsed by clicking around the fifteen general categories or 600 alphabetized topics. For a bit of librarian humor, click on the question at the bottom of the page ""What does this page look like through a librarian’s eyes?"" Unfortunately, you’ll need patience to enjoy this site. It is very slow at times."

Kids-in-Mind
"With kids-in-mind, this site summarizes a movie’s appropriateness with three numerical ratings (ranging from 1 to 10) for Sex, Violence and Profanity. For example, "Artificial Intelligence" was awarded a 3.5.2 which translates to a 3 for Sex, 5 for Violence and 2 for Profanity. Reasons for each rating are described in detail, and the review concludes with a short list of single-word discussion topics and a concluding message: " Life, whether mechanoid or humanoid, is not worth living without love.""

Kids Connect: Ask KC
"At Ask KC there are no previous questions and answers to peruse, just a form to submit your own query. Questions will be answered via email by a school librarian in a couple of days. Most likely, the volunteer will point you to Internet resources where you can find your own answer. What else would expect from a librarian? Ask KC reminds us that our own school librarians are terrific (and live) resources that should not be overlooked."
