Surfing the Net with Kids: Online Research and Web Site Evaluation
"Knowing how to use a search engine and follow hyperlinks is not the same as knowing how to use the Internet for research. Serious research requires authoritative sources, and since anyone can publish a Web page, it is important to be able to evaluate what you find online. Today’s selections take a look at the whole research process: finding useful sites, evaluating them, and creating bibliographic citations."

Yak’s Corner
"Yak’s Corner for elementary kids, created by the Detroit Free Press, is part news magazine and part online playground. Yes, there are feature stories here (such as a good coverage of Y2K, including but not limited to, the year 2000 computer bug) but there are also fun activities such as puzzles, Yak Yuks (these are jokes, get it?) and Yak crafts. My favorite click is the never-ending collaborative story. Read the first twelve paragraphs, and then submit one of your own. You’ll find it listed under Yaktivities."

Yahooligans!
Reviewed July 23, 1999 by Bluew10, 12 years old from Indiana who is not affiliated with the site. Yahoolagans is a good site because... It is like Yahoo but it does not have nasty pictures and stuff. It is made for helping kids with homework math games, spelling games and games that are subjects in school. And also fun stuff like pics of Nsync & Backstreet bos, Britney Spears ect. Well you should check it out sometime.

Yahooligans!
"The first Internet directory just for kids is still the best. Created by the folks at Yahoo!, Yahooligans! is strictly speaking not a search engine, but a searchable, browsable Internet index. Each listing is handpicked by a human (not an automated computer program) and placed in their hierarchy under one of eight main categories (such as Around the World, Art Soup or School Bell). To search their site, just enter your keywords and hit the search button. Or try browsing the index by choosing a main topic. For example under Science and Oddities, you’ll find thirty more topics from Airplanes to Weather. Choosing Robots will reward you with links to fifteen sites, each with a brief description. "

Yahooligans! Glossary
"Designed for elementary grades, Yahooligans! Glossary is browseable, but not searchable, which means you’ll need to click around to find your definition. If you strike out, Yahooligans’s includes a link to Matisse’s Glossary of Internet Terms ( http://www.matisse.net/files/glossary.html ) on every page. Matisse’s looks dry, but does include some tongue-in-check humor. Check out the definition for CATP."

Yahooligans!
"The first Internet directory for kids is still my favorite. Published by Yahoo!, each listing is placed in the searachable hierarchy under one of six main categories (such as Around the World, Arts & Entertainment or School Bell). Over the years, their extra features have grown by leaps and bounds. On the front page, you’ll find E-Cards, Music, News, Joke of the Day and Yahooligans! Poll, just to name a few."
