The King Center
The King Center, created in 1968 by King’s widow, Coretta Scott King, is dedicated to the advancement of King’s non-violent ideals. If your speakers are on, you will be treated to King’s powerful oratory. "Recognize that he who is greatest among you, shall be a servant. That’s the new definition of greatness." Best sections are The King Holiday and Dr. King’s Legacy, which is a multimedia slide show pairing sound clips with a text commentary.

The History Place: John F. Kennedy Photo History
"This marvelous annotated photo gallery of Kennedy’s life is divided into four sections: Early Years, War Hero, Politician and President. As you progress through the gallery, click on the thumbnail photos for a larger view. I found the War Hero section particularly interesting, as it tells the tale of how Jack entered politics, starting in 1939 London, where his father was serving as United States Ambassador to England. Best of all, The History Place grants permission to use these photos in offline school reports."

The Columbus Doors
""[T]he first image we encounter as we enter the Capitol Rotunda, is the massive Columbus Doors at the east entrance of the Rotunda. Acting as a literal and figurative gateway to the shrine of American history and mythology, the doors present an interesting focal point for the discussion of American public memory." Standing nearly seventeen-feet tall and weighing 20,000 pounds, the doors were created by sculptor Randolph Rogers in 1857. Designed as eight bas relief panels, topped by a lunette, each panel tells a part of the Columbus story."

The American Experience--Lindbergh
"Created as a companion to the PBS documentary ""Lindbergh,"" this site offers a transcript of the film plus so much more. Best clicks are the six articles found in Special Features, which include The Spirit of St. Louis (the story behind the plane that Lindbergh flew across the Atlantic), The Kidnapping (a look at the abduction of Lindbergh’s son, and the trial that followed) and a fascinating piece about Lindbergh’s controversial relationship with Germany’s Nazis and his unpopular anti-war sentiments. Is a hero still a hero if you do not agree with his political views?"

The American President: John F. Kennedy
"This fabulous site was built as a companion to the PBS American President series, and has quite an extensive Kennedy section. Start with Fast Facts (good for short school reports or your research project outline) and then get more depth by visiting the sixteen additional chapters (look for them in the left-hand menu.) Noteworthy ones include First Lady, American Franchise, In His Own Words, Gallery, and Web Resources."
