The Time of the Lincolns
"The Time of the Lincolns is a companion Web site to the PBS television special Abraham and Mary Lincoln: A House Divided. It is a rich site for middle and high-schoolers that explores not just the Civil War, but also women’s rights, slavery, abolition, politics and the growth of the industrial economy. Best clicks are the primary sources, such as newspaper excerpts, letters and diaries; and the Technology Gallery that features the ""new technologies that brought about sweeping changes in the nation’s economy"" such as the Whitney cotton gin and the steam engine. The teacher’s guide includes lesson plans in history, economics, geography, and civics."

The Tuskegee Airmen: A Tribute to My Father
""During World War II, black fighter pilots fought the Germans abroad and racism in the ranks. May we never forget ... and may future generations understand the way it was. My Father, Joseph P. Gomer, got his pilots license before his driver’s license. ... In July 1942, at the age of 22, he enlisted in the Army." This fabulous tribute to Major Gomer and his fellow airmen, written by proud daughter Phyllis G. Douglass, is a must see. Be sure to include the Comments & Inspirational Stories page in your visit."

The Real Pocahontas
"In 1614, Pocahontas was kidnaped by the colonists, with the intention of trading her for concessions from Powhatan. During her captivity, she converted to Christianity, married colonist John Rolfe and was baptized Rebecca. This marriage lead to several years of peace between the Jamestown colonists and Powhatan’s tribes. In 1616, John and Rebecca Rolfe sailed to England to help raise funds for the struggling Virginia colony. "Lady Rebecca" toured England as a visiting princess. At just twenty-one, Rebecca died of small pox, an old world disease. She is buried in Gravesend, England. This page was written by one of her proud descendants. "

The Presidents of Mount Rushmore
Reviewed February 13, 2001 by Patrick King (Pat), a reader from Salt Lake City, Utah who is affiliated with the site. This is a history of Mount Rushmore along with reports on most of the presidents by 5th grade students. This project has been fun for both myself, as the designer, and the students who each day have looked to see if their project was up yet. It has given them a feeling of part ownership in the project.

The Presidents
"There is much to learn about the presidency by studying the men who occupied the office. All have been immensely different from one another. Woodrow Wilson, the peacemaker; Kennedy, the Cold Warrior; Jimmy Carter, the engineer; ’Silent Cal’ Coolidge and the bellicose Theodore Roosevelt. We’ve had Richard Nixon, the anti-communist and Ronald Reagan, the actor turned politician. All of the characters are complex and all of their stories surprising. Their lives and careers provide us a panoramic view of America. The Presidents Web site draws on the research done for eight PBS television specials portraying the seven aforementioned presidents and Franklin D. Roosevelt."
