Votes for Women Suffrage Pictures
"These thirty-eight suffrage-era pictures are part of the Library of Congress’ By Popular Demand program to digitize their most frequently requested holdings and place them online. In addition to portraits, you’ll find "photographs of suffrage parades, picketing suffragists, and an anti-suffrage display, as well as cartoons commenting on the movement all evoking the visible and visual way in which the debate over women’s suffrage was carried out." The exhibit has a text component (167 books and pamphlets) linked from the front page."

Virtual Marching Tour of the American Revolution
"In late July 1777 "the largest [British] armada ever assembled in America set sail off of Sandy Hook, New Jersey. It was carrying 17,000 British soldiers and sailors in over 260 ships. The armada was headed for an attack on the capital city of Philadelphia. They underwent a distressful thirty-four day sea-trek. The voyage took its toll in lost time, seasick soldiers, and scores of dead horses. Washington’s troops started in northern New Jersey and shadowed the movement of the British fleet." Starting with an excellent backgrounder on the events that spurred the colonists to revolt, this virtual marching tour provides a battle-by-battle view of the war. "

Virtual Tour of Plymouth Plantation
"Today Plymouth is the site of a living museum recreating the seventeenth century Pilgrim lifestyle. People in period costumes carry out typical daily tasks. Even their dialect recreates the flavor of the period. The virtual tour is created with photographs and narrative, but there is no continuity in navigation. Use your browser’s back button to return to the Virtual Tour index page after each exhibit."

Vietnam Combat Art
Reviewed October 17, 2000 by Jim P., a reader from USA, South Dakota, Pierre who is affiliated with the site. During the Vietnam War the US Army sent teams of soldier artists into the field to record a visual record of their experiences for the US Army’s Center of Military History Army Art Collection. Jim Pollock was one of these soldier artists and his Web site is dedicated to his experience as a soldier artist in 1967. The artist will answer student questions about his experience as a soldier artist, his art and his views on art. Students are encouraged to interview the artist by email for research papers.

Union Pacific: It’s Just Railroad Talk
"This lexicon of "railroad-ese" is a fun jaunt through the specialized jargon of the railroad. A "hot shot," for example, is a train that has priority over others, such as passenger train on a tight schedule. After browsing around the glossary, check out the rest of the Union Pacific site by clicking on "General Public." There you’ll discover pages of Union Pacific history along with company facts and figures. One hidden jewel is the collection of UP advertising posters dating back to 1921. Look for it in the Photo Gallery."
