Six Paths to China
"Six Paths to China is home to six educational activities created as models for online learning. The most comprehensive are the WebQuests found at the end of the list. "Does the Tiger Eat Its Cubs?" challenges the reader to find the truth about reported mistreatment of Chinese orphans. "Searching for China" invites students to prepare a policy recommendation on U.S.-China relations. Students take the role of either senator, businessman, human rights activist, religious leader, museum curator or environmental activist. After researching their roles, each participant brings his individual perspective to the group project."

Secrets of Lost Empires: Medieval Siege
"As a companion to the PBS television show that originally aired in 2000, Medieval Siege tackles the subject of medieval warfare in general, and the powerful trebuchet (a huge wooden catapult) in particular. The interview with British military historian Richard Holmes offers excellent insight into everyday castle life, covering topics such as the cleanliness and castle entertainment. And to top it all off, you can ""build your own virtual trebuchet and fire giant sandstone balls at a castle wall"" in the Hot Science activity ""Destroy the Castle."""

Scholastic.com: Race Across Alaska
"This Scholastic.com special report is chock full of interactive features such as a March 20th chat with three generations of mushers (Dan, Mitch and Danny Seavey,) and the opportunity to become an Iditarod reporter. To get your story published, pick one of three topics (The Dogs, The Mushers, or The Race) and follow the instructions for online submission. Other great clicks are the musher interviews, a self-scoring quiz, and an article (with an online vote) about why animal activists oppose the race. So far, with more than 99,000 kids polled, 68% believe the sled dogs are treated fairly."

Scholastic News: Reporting from Iraq
"For elementary and middle-school grades, Scholastic News covers the Iraqi conflict with feature stories, but no breaking news. Important sections include an introduction to Hussein (see Iraq vs. the U.S.), and the Iraq articles (created with the help of the encyclopedia folks at Grolier Online). For classroom use, there is a ten-question self-scoring quiz, and a printable scavenger hunt based on the Iraq entry at the online CIA fact book."

Ron Wises’s World Paper Money
""I believe I have succeeded in providing at least one banknote example for all current banknote producing countries (and a few that aren’t around anymore)." Ron’s online collection of international paper money includes scanned front and back images of more than 2,000 banknotes, adding up to over 160 megabytes of graphics. His collection is neatly categorized by continent and country. Many serious collectors list Ron’s extensive site as a personal favorite."

Public Record Office: Virtual Museum Kings & Queens
"The Public Record Office is the national archive of England, Wales and the United Kingdom, preserving records that span from the eleventh century to the present. Their Virtual Museumoffers just a glimpse of their holdings, including this eclectic eight-item Kings & Queens gallery. My favorite click is Edward VIII’s letter of abdication dated December 10, 1936. He is the onlyBritish monarch to have abdicated voluntarily, which he did in order to marry Wallis Simpson, anAmerican divorcee. The exhibit is also available as a printable PDF (look for the "P" book icon inthe upper right hand corner.)"

Project Change
