TechTV: Confusing Media Players
"The very first step toward enjoying online radio is installing a few audio players. This short article from Tech TV’s Call for Help gives you links for downloading three must-have players: Apple’s QuickTime, Microsoft’s Windows Media, and Real’s RealOne (formerly known as RealPlayer.) The article also provides download links for three useful (but optional) players to consider."

Surfing the Net with Kids: Creating a Web Page
"Last summer, I stumbled upon a class of ten- and eleven-year olds making Web pages, and it occurred to me that knowing HTML (the language of the Web) is the hallmark accomplishment of computer literacy today. A Web page written in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) can be created with any text editor or word processor, if you know the HTML codes. Here are my recommendations to get you started."

Surfing the Net with Kids: ThinkQuest Jr. 1999
"This week I’m not featuring the usual line up of professional Web sites from the likes of National Geographic, PBS or the Library of Congress. This week my five-star sites were created by fourth, fifth and sixth graders — and you’re going to be blown away by how marvelous they are! I’ve chosen five personal favorites from the second annual ThinkQuest Jr. competition — a Web site building contest for upper-elementary students. Want to join in the fun? Details on entering next year’s ThinkQuest Jr. (or the original ThinkQuest for twelve- to nineteen- year olds) can be found"

Surfing the Net with Kids: Summer on the Internet
"School’s out. Summer’s in. Our long warm days are filled with camp and family vacations. What’s up on the Net? Here’s an eclectic summer mix, including two virtual summer camps and a virtual road trip. But remember, it’s summer. Don’t forget to go outside and play."

Surfing the Net with Kids: Internet Radio
"Many radio stations can be heard over the Internet through a process called streaming. Streaming allows you to listen to a program while it is being downloaded, instead of waiting for the download to finish Without streaming, you would need to download the entire audio file, save it to your computer, and then open it. There is still a confusing array of streaming formats and players, but here’s a selection of sites to get you started."
