Leonardo’s Codex
"The Codex Leicester, written between 1506 and 1510, "" is a lively record of Leonardo’s thoughts. It embraces a wide variety of topics, from astronomy to hydrodynamics, and includes Leonardo’s observations and theories related to rivers and seas; the properties of water; rocks and fossils; air; and celestial light. All of this is expressed in his signature mirror writing, as well as in more than 300 pen-and-ink sketches, drawings, and diagrams, many of them illustrating imagined or real experiments."" On loan from Bill Gates, the Codex is on display at the American Museum of Natural History, and at this website."

Investigating the Renaissance
"From the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, Investigating the Renaissance "demonstrates the ways in which computer technology can be harnessed to add to our knowledge about Renaissance paintings and how they were made. Computer-assisted imaging can reveal aspects of the process of making art not visible to the unaided eye. It also reveals the alterations of intervening centuries, alterations that were intended to repair the ravages of time and use, and to adjust images to reflect changing aesthetic preferences." "

Infoplease: Michelangelo
"Michelangelo drew extensively as a child, and his father placed him under the tutelage of Ghirlandaio, a respected artist of the day. This six-part biography from the Infoplease Encyclopedia is an excellent resource for school reports. Best clicks are the hyperlinked keywords that whisk you away to related articles, and the Cite function (small link in the middle of the page) that creates bibliographic citations. If you get lost in the maze of linked pages, you can always find your way back by using the Search Biographies function in the lower left-hand corner of any page."

Gargoyles of Duke University
"Some parts of this Web site are not working, but what remains is very good. Come here for the Natural and Unnatural History of the Gargoyle, and the French cathedral tour. What’s not working is the welcoming audio clip, the English cathedral tour and the image map of the Duke University gargoyles. Too bad!"

Gargoyles in New York
"You don’t have to be in New York to enjoy these virtual walks around the city, peering up at the monsters. "They crouch in the corners and lurk under windows. They curl around drainpipes and blend into doorways. They’re so clever at hiding most folks won’t see them at all."You can choose from monster walks, a term coined by webmaster Amelia Wilson, down Wall Street, Madison, Gramercy Park, Central Park, the West Side and at the Brooklyn Museum. More walks will be added in the future. This Web site is illustrated with photographs and the writing is deliciously fun."
