Puzzle Factory: Coloring
"Just when you think you know how to color online, Puzzle Factory comes along with new rules. Instead of clicking on a color, select it with a keyboard letter (""r"" for red or ""b"" for blue) and hold that key down while you drag your mouse over the picture. What a fun way to learn letters! To change the size of your paintbrush (they call it a pencil), simply tap a number from 0 to 9. Want to share the fun? Pick any of the coloring pages, and send it to a friend as a postcard. <!--"

Picasso: The Early Years
"The most celebrated artist of the twentieth century, Pablo Picasso was a prodigy whose virtuosity, imagination, and expressive power were evident long before he reached the age of twenty. This [Boston Museum of Fine Arts] exhibition examines the first decade and a half of Picasso’s extraordinary career. To see the entire exhibit, click on the thumbnails (small paintings) and then traverse through the site using the Next button. Also fascinating is the time line which places Picasso’s early life events in sequence with other artistic and cultural icons of the twentieth century such as Sigmund Freud, the Wright brothers, Paul Gauguin and Renoir. <!--"

Picasso and Portraiture
"Calling itself the "Official Picasso Web Site," this Club Internet site is moderated by Picasso’s son Claude Picasso. It promises to keep us up-to-date on Picasso events around the world, but sadly has not been updated for many years. The Picasso and Portraiture exhibit remains online, however, and is wonderful and quite extensive: a private showing of sixty works from the 1996 traveling exhibit, mounted by the Museum of Modern Art in New York."

Phoons from Around the World
Reviewed by John Darrow, a reader from San Jose, California, who is affiliated with the site. "People around the world send their photos to this family-oriented web site. Every photo must meet one requirement: it must include at least one person standing on one foot in a running-like pose (nicknamed the "Phoon" pose). The fun for the viewer is not seeing the pose, but seeing how many different people have done this pose in so many interesting places. It is a fun way to travel the world from your Internet chair."

PBS: Ansel Adams: A Documentary Film
"The Emmy-nominated PBS documentary about Adams’ life and work first aired on April 21, 2002. Although designed as a companion to the film, this site also stands alone. It includes a transcript of the film, a timeline that starts in 1839 with the invention of daguerreotype portraits, a gallery of ten photos, and a teacher’s guide. Best clicks are the special features such as the interactive tour of a view camera, early footage of Adams hiking through Yosemite, and a discussion on the nature of photography. ""Is it a fine art, equivalent to the other visual arts, or a documentary tool, best suited for recording the facts?"""

Reviewed January 29, 2002 by Skandar, a parent from Los Angeles, California, who is not affiliated with the site. This site is loads extremely fast, with thumbnails of hundreds of Picasso paintings, and etchings that can be enlarged afterwards. Not only that, it has updates on all tours and events related to the artist as well as TONS of relevant links! Very useful for students needing resourcing!

Pablo Picasso
"A Picasso aficionado, who identifies himself only by his email address, created this online tribute with a creative interface that perfectly suits its subject matter. Move your mouse over Picasso’s colorful face and the various subject headings will pop up one by one. Click appropriately to dive into any of the five sections: Biography, Paintings, Illustrations, Etchings, or Sculpture. The biography is in the form of a time line. Each featured artwork (although not critiqued or explained) is annotated with title, medium, size and year."

Oatmeal Box Pinhole Photography
"Can you really make a camera from a Quaker Oats box and an aluminum can? You bet. You will, however, need a darkroom to load the film and develop it. If you don’t have access to a community or school darkroom, you can create one in your bathroom. These pinhole cameras work just like a "normal" camera with a wide-angle lens. In fact, the resulting photos are almost as good as ones made with lenses that cost hundreds of dollars! If you’re looking for a summer project for your family or scout troop, this looks like a winner."
